Hot & New, Week of 05/01/23

April showers bring May flowers, and new music blossoms all across Audius! Our garden looks beautiful right now, and we’ve hand-picked some of our favorite tracks for this week’s Hot and New playlist update!

Decorated songwriter and vocalist Fatherdude presents another star-studded collaboration, “When The Other Shoes Drops.” Produced by two highly notorious artists, Brasstracks and Alexander Lewis, this lush R&B-influenced song features Fatherdude’s signature soulful voice. “When The Other Shoe Drops” presents a sensual yet energetic instrumental - a small band ensemble that also hosts trumpets, a mark of both Brasstracks and Alexander Lewis’ idiosynchratic styles. Meanwhile, with his honeyed voice, Fatherdude sings of their hesitancies and anxieties affecting their enjoyment of the good in his life. “When The Shoe Drops” is deceptively lovely and upbeat, contrasting with vulnerable lyrics, but this tune will undoubtedly pull anyone out of feeling defeated.

Iconic and dynamic producer Lookas unveils their newest festival track, “LOWA.” Fast paced and sonically intricate, “LOWA” is reminiscent of the explosion of hybrid trap in the mid-to-late 2010’s. Characteristic of traps worthy of the main stage, Lookas incorporates classic claps and distorted vocal samples throughout the track. Not only that, but a wide variety of different drum samples are implemented. Rhythmically bouncy with a touch of swing, Lookas masterfully recreates the maddening zeal of festival trap in “LOWA.”

Caly Bevier once again steps into the Audius spotlight with her latest release, “Fire (Never Dies).” This rock-inspired track feels like a touch of juvenile defiance that typifies some of the greatest rock and roll songs in the last 50 years. Caly Bevier describes “Fire (Never Dies)” as a “trip down memory lane,” as this song is about her best friends in her home state of Ohio. She recalls joyous times of being an invincible youth, maybe even a little reckless. This song captures the irreplaceable love for childhood friends, in spite of the distance that aging and life events have put between Caly Bevier and her hometown clique. So popular and nostalgic even that “Fire (Never Dies)” was this week’s #1 most popular song!

Snoozegod, a producer with endless talents, gives Audius a taste of his latest single before it releases across other major platforms. “before it’s all done” features vocalist Khalil and musician Alejandro, and the trio together displays the flexibility and unique flow of jersey club. Snoozegod maintains a simple production, allowing each element of “before it’s all done” to breathe and shine. With there’s contrast between the punching bassline and the rich singing, “before it’s all done” becomes a track for the club as well as an intimate date night.

Another artist receiving a repeat Audius spotlight, Rome In Silver continues impressing listeners with their immaculate production. Their most recent track, “cloud9high,” showcases Vaarwell’s angelic voice over a delicate house beat. Gentle synths glow throughout the track, creating a celestial environment that encourages introspection and gratitude. Rome In Silver also celebrates “cloud9high” as the second single off their upcoming album!
