Summer Festival Season: Wax Motif, Planet Zuzy, Daktyl & more! Hot & New 7/29

With festivals and local shows in abundance this summer, it can be really draining to make it to every event! Audius has you covered: this week, our Hot & New playlist hosts plenty of fresh dance floor heaters for heading out to the concert or raving directly from bed!

In a massive collaboration, Wax Motif joins forces with Greg (BR) and Doug! to create “Shake It.” Building off of an addictive, rhythmically involved house bassline, a variety of vocal samples add a playful and fiery energy. Although “Shake It” embodies the minimalist side of house music, subtle plinks and dashes of percussion showcase the personalities of all three producers. Just like the name suggests, this track will instantly have house heads shakin’ it!

Showcasing another face of house music, Planet Zuzy adds her emotive disco flare to the genre in her latest release, “What If It All Blows Up?” A laser-inspired bassline carries Planet Zuzy’s vocals, enveloping the dance floor in this shimmering soundscape. A saxophone wails its solo melody, helping to bridge the iconic elements of house found all throughout “What If It All Blows Up?” While Planet Zuzy expresses her fears and vulnerabilities of a potential end, the song encourages us to let go and get lost in the music, even if just for a moment.

Daktyl celebrates Wave, their newest body of work. Released via bitbird, this seven-track EP finds the intersection between the futuristic and the organic. Daktyl’s delightful sound design and composition skills paint vivid environments throughout Wave, from iridescent light glinting off of the ocean’s surface to neon city lights shining like stars in a cyberpunk sky. Wave features collaborations with artists including San Holo, Lizzy Land, Anjulie, and others, all bringing their own flourishes to Daktyl’s silken future bass. With seven tracks displaying a spectrum of sonic experiences, everyone is certain to find a new favorite song on Wave!

Bronze Whale and Sofasound also commemorate the release of their own body of work: the Couch Mammals EP. Appropriately named, these 5 tracks fuse the chillhop expertise from Sofasound and the indie fusion creativity from Bronze Whale. Couch Mammals captures the carefree feeling of a peaceful summer sunset, the relaxing joy of a long day spent outside laughing with friends. This delectable mix of indie instrumentation, chillhop production, hip-hop influence, and delicate composition means that Couch Mammals will be on repeat as listeners find something new to love with each playthrough!

Quality Goods Records continues housing the latest and greatest in cutting edge trap, this time presenting “Badman” by VANDA and Tanfa. These two pull inspiration from the massive, gritty, synth-heavy subgenre of trap popularized by RL Grime. “Badman” has more layers than lasagna, with a cornucopia of different synths and percussion. VANDA and Tanfa concentrated the energy of a generator into “Badman,” and this song will certainly eviscerate speakers with its dense power!
