Reintroducing the Audius Grants Program: Supporting Innovation in Web3 Music

The Open Audio Foundation is excited to announce the reconstitution of its Grants Program, a vital step in fostering innovation and community development within the Web3 music ecosystem. After a period of dormancy following the governance takeover in 2022, the grants initiative is making a comeback, strengthened by thoughtful revisions and safeguards to ensure long-term success.

Who Can Apply?

The Audius Grants Program is open to developers, entrepreneurs, and community members who are passionate about building innovative projects that align with the Audius mission. Whether you’re working on technical improvements or initiatives to grow the ecosystem, we encourage you to apply and share your vision with the community.

Grant Categories and Selection Process

The program offers two categories of grants:

  • Gig Grants (under $15,000 USD): Designed for focused, shorter-term projects or proof-of-concept initiatives. These grants empower smaller teams or individuals to make a meaningful impact quickly.
  • Tour Grants (over $15,000 USD): Intended for more extensive, long-term projects with a broader scope and impact. These grants support ambitious initiatives that drive significant advancements in the Audius ecosystem.

Grants will be awarded either by the Open Audio Foundation’s Grants Committee or by a community vote, depending on the size and nature of the project. Smaller grants, particularly Gig Grants, will typically be evaluated and awarded directly by the Grants Committee, allowing for efficient decision-making and quick funding. Larger or more complex proposals, such as those seeking Tour Grants, may require additional input from the community through a governance vote to ensure alignment with the broader Audius mission and priorities. Each proposal will undergo a thorough review to ensure compliance and merit.

Grant Cycles and Timeline

Grants will be awarded in quarterly cycles, starting January 1, 2025. Applications will be accepted throughout the first month of each quarter, with deadlines falling at the end of that month. Grants will be reviewed and awarded by the end of the quarter, allowing recipients to begin their projects promptly in the next cycle. Grant recipients will be required to satisfy certain compliance requirements and enter into a simple Grant Agreement.
