Hot & New, Week of 12/12/22

While people compile their best tracks of 2022, there are still new releases dropping that deserve celebration too! Audius presents the following additions to your “Best Of 2022” list on this week’s Hot & New playlist refresh.

Tiga and Hudson Mohawke weave sensuality and acid house together in their newest four-on-the-floor tune, “Positions.” Released on their Montreal-based record label, Love Minus Communications, “Positions” shines as the first upload from the imprint onto Audius. This track opens up with classic acid house sounds - squelching loops over a driving, wet hi-hat. Then, singing celestial synths and soulful vocals elevate this 303 into a stunning merger of house subgenres across the decades.

Reikko dyes hyperpop a melancholic tint in their heartbroken newest song, “gone.” The instrumental creates a longing in the song, paired with Reikko’s voice singing about losing this person who drained her. The upbeat energy of hyperpop clashes with the heavy emotions Reikko conveys in “gone,” reminding listeners of the bittersweetness of leaving someone you loved, regardless of how bad they were for you.

San Holo’s label bitbird unveils their emotive new record, “SLEEP” by OddKidOut. This gentle yet euphoric track captures the energy in the setting sun; pastel tones of pink and rosy orange deepen as evening turns to night. Infused with love, “SLEEP” twinkles like the first stars blinking in the deep indigo sky. Moonlight glows throughout this track as OddKidOut encourages their loved ones to embrace a peaceful slumber.

Houston-based trap rapper Trill Sammy returns to Audius with his track “FREAK HO,” transporting listeners to the club. Trill Sammy raps over a minimal trap beat, flowing like bottles of tequila in VIP. He combines trap rap influences from the vivid Houston scene with the iconic flow styles from Atlanta. “FREAK HO” takes the elements from these two legendary scenes and gives them a nonchalant yet defiant twist.
