With Halloween falling in the middle of the week, the opportunity for two weekends of costumed dancing consumes party-goers and festival attendees nationwide. This week, Audius shines light through a prism and reveals a vibrant spectrum of amazing EDM subgenres on this week’s Hot & New playlist update!

Wave record label vibe.digital continues impressing listeners with their latest release, “Love Hotel” from barnacle boi. A pillar in the American wave community, barnacle boi infuses his dreamy production style with a dose of romanticism in “Love Hotel.” This track transports listeners to a spacious, luxurious room, looking out of a massive window at rolling hills. Celestial vocal samples fill the dark nighttime sky with glistening stars and glowing synths create the beautiful vision of meadow grass rippling across the hills in shades of dark purple and burgundy. “Love Hotel” captures the otherworldly caress of devoted intimacy in barnacle boi’s stunning display of sonic delicacy.

FUXWITHIT Records unveils an undeniable Halloween heater from Buzz Junior, a haunting trap tune titled “We Go Harder.” Reminiscent of the West Coast styles of trap from Team Supreme and Great Dane, Buzz Junior maximizes impact while utilizing minimal elements and allowing for space within the track. “We Go Harder” proves that a track can still smack when selecting just a few excellent sample pairings. Ghostly synths clash with staccato claps and hi-hats; meanwhile, rhythmic complexity fluctuates throughout “We Go Harder,” showing off Buzz Junior’s composition affinity as well as their ability to produce straight fire. Undoubtedly, “We Go Harder” belongs on every Halloween party playlist.

Two producers of occult bass music, wasterurself and BOSTN, join their demonic talents together for “eat glass.” An eviscerating fusion of beatdown hardcore similar to Knocked Loose and gritty bass music, this gritty track fuels listeners with dark energy. Aggressive vocals shout throughout “eat glass” as the instrumentations oscillates between grooving hardcore and bouncing industrial bass. BOSTN and wasteurself found the unique intersection for lovers of heavier styles of metal/punk as well as electronic music while also managing to maintain the distinct occult bass sound they’ve adopted.

Taking a turn for the more cheerful side of the coin, COMPLEXIVE adapted a TikTok jam session into a full jazztronica track titled “Paft Dunk.” Pulling influence from the duo the song is cheekily named for, COMPLEXIVE layers upbeat funk with a four-on-the-floor pattern. Jamming keytar grooves over the first chunk of the song in a way that feels distinctly disco. However, a brief interlude followed by a drop twists “Paft Dunk” into something much more rhythmically eclectic. COMPLEXIVE attracts lovers of disco as well as dubstep with this funky intersectional tune.

Russian drum and bass legend Enei celebrates the release of his latest EP, Other Side. This four-track body of work explores a few different subgenres of drum and bass; liquid-laden “Other Side” finds the crossover between melancholic beauty and shadowy drive. While “Want It” presents more along the lines of jump up, certain sample selections feel undeniably techstep. “Alligator” maddens listeners with an aggressive take on deep drum and bass, powered by immaculate sound design. “Dead Rollout” explores a bass-face inducing cross-pollination of neuro, deep drum and bass, and jump up. All in all, Enei stays in the drum and bass spotlight, displaying his amazing production talents in Other Side.
