With the advent of electronic music came the ability to create innumerable genres with sounds that, previously, could have never been conceived. On this week’s Hot & New playlist update, Audius celebrates electronic music across genres and around the world!
Well-known label Slow Roast Records makes their Audius debut with their latest offering, “Warcry” by Omicasa. This track is the newest from Omicasa, a collaborative project between legendary turntablist Craze and Matsu. A relentless punching bassline establishes a palpable intensity for “Warcry.” Then, a quoted sample introduces the rest of the song’s elements. Keeping it minimal but effective, Omicasa establishes an addictive bounce in the song with a pulsing metallic synth. “Warcry” presents an amalgamation of influences from different genres, including Latin music, Afrobeats, classic festival trap, and even experimental bass.

DJ_Dave unveils their newest single, “Array.” Making music with code, DJ_Dave’s unique approach to music production yields a sound that is both technological and celestial. “Array” is no different, uploading listeners into their technicolor atmosphere. Iridescent synths glow and twinkle, meanwhile ghostly vocals blend seamlessly into the song, weaving through color and code. “Array” is a dreamy track that feels airy and icy, like breathing in a winter breeze. DJ_Dave’s coding production takes a calculating approach to music and produces something beautiful and pearlescent.

Mija, a producer who rejects the boundaries of genres, teams up with bloody white on “NO RULES,” the first track off of Mija’s upcoming EP. “NO RULES” embodies a sexy intersection between the grit of bass house and the dark hypnosis of tech house. A bass riff sustains throughout the entire song, alternating between rumbling and smooth. Vocal samples further immerse listeners into a warehouse where strobe lights flash. Irresistible and almost mischievous, “NO RULES” belongs in clubs and on late-night festival sound systems.

New York record label Pack Records uplifts an artist across the pond with their newest offering: “Phantom SP (ft. Bisouxx)” by Manchester-based producer Glimji. This playful track is reminiscent of Britain’s early 2000s garage sound, blending angelic tones with a springy 2-step bassline. “Phantom SP” glimmers and jumps, inspiring new listeners with this timeless genre and reinvigorating those with a long-time love of garage music.
