Hot & New, Week of 10/24/22

With Halloween looming on the horizon, lovers of both the haunted holiday and finely curated party soundtracks are looking to fine-tune their October playlists. This week’s Audius Hot & New playlist update contains the latest tunes for tinting the aura a bit darker. From demonic drum and bass to hypnotic techno, everyone will discover the perfect track to level up their Halloween setlist.

In celebration of a successful festival at Dirtybird Campout 2022, the house record label uploaded their Dirtybird Campout Compilation 2022 to Audius. Full of addictive songs across multiple subgenres of house music, this compilation uplifts several artists showcased at this year’s Dirtybird Campout, including Kevin Knapp with his cut “Dope Kid Central.” In this track, Kevin Knapp meticulously balances bouncy bass, nonchalant vocals, and well-placed percussion to create a delectable house track.

Upcoming techno royalty and web3 enthusiast BLONDE:ISH returns to Audius with her remix of Belinda Carlisle’s “Live Your Life Be Free.” She transforms the 31-year-old rock ‘n’ roll track into a hypnotic four-on-the-floor roller. Not only does BLONDE:ISH nod to Belinda Carlisle with this reimagining, but she also pays homage to the decades-old practice of taking the chorus lyrics and warping them for her vivid vision in this droning techno banger.

Turning toward the malevolent, NIK P unleashes a devastating halftime dub with his latest release, “Ruffneck Dub (ft. Jammz).” NIK P synthesizes a creeping intro that slowly lurches into the aggressive vocals of Jammz. The notorious producer expertly distorts grumbling bass and whirring drums, cutting through this intense melody with the chopped sample from Jammz and the occasional twang from a discordant synth.

Picking up the tempo, Britec eviscerates speakers with a disorienting drum and bass tune, “NEBULA.” This synth-heavy track comes as one of five songs from Britec’s latest EP, VOLATILE, all of which can be found on Audius. Illustrating a striking icy soundscape, Britec captures the desperate feeling of being caught in a blizzard in “NEBULA.” While this song radiates a vicious aura, the rest of the VOLATILE EP conveys a wide variety of high-energy drum and bass sounds.

Up-and-coming hyperpop artist 2hollis waxes poetic in “PLASTER,” the newest technicolor track from the singer-songwriter. This song combines modern glitchcore characteristics with sounds reminiscent of 2010’s electronic music. Meanwhile, 2hollis belts out about how the world around them is artificial. Although angst fuels the lyrics, the driving, upbeat production lets listeners get lost in dancing underneath neon lights.
