RL Grime’s imprint, Sable Valley, presents their most recent record release, “THE POWER” by notorious trap producer Juelz. After being played as an ID in live performances from several DJs including Skrillex and JAWNS, fans rejoice at the release of “THE POWER.” Keeping with the evolution of trap over time, Juelz packs a powerful punch into this production, overwhelming audiences with deeply layered synths. Highly futuristic while retaining a twinge of vintage rave music, “THE POWER” eviscerates speakers with percussive elements that contrasting the wailing synths. Not only does Juelz celebrate their fourth release on Sable Valley with this track, but “THE POWER” also stands as the first single from their upcoming album.
Audius once again spotlights Montreal-based DJ and producer, TDJ, in celebration of her freshest EP titled BACK TO 123. This six-track body of work comes a month after the release of her live recorded Boiler Room set, which showed off her eclectic, energetic performance style. Now, BACK TO 123 displays an equally vibrant spectrum of work, ranging from hard rock to progressive house. The pop-y trance single off the EP, “Save Me,” burst onto Audius when it was originally dropped. Now, listeners feast on the delectable spread of music that TDJ composed on BACK TO 123.
Musician and songwriter Bobby Saint returns to Audius with his fresh R&B tune, “Bon Voyage,” featuring production from Likeminds. With his rich voice, Bobby Saint sings about finding that special someone to settle down with, saying “Bon voyage to the one-night stand;” indeed, no longer seeking out less meaningful hook-ups in place of a consistent partnership, a mutual love and attraction. Meanwhile, Likeminds composes a slow, sensual instrumental to match the lyrics as Bobby Saint croons about commitment and love.
Audius highlights alternative rock artist Unlike Pluto yet again as he unveils his newest hybrid offering, “Synthetic Tragedy.” A master of blending genres, Unlike Pluto combines anthemic aspects of electronic music with the dark mood and instrumentation of metal. The bridge riff teases a drum and bass rhythm before the track drops into a call-and-response between guitar wails and euphoric twinkling. Unlike Pluto balances this intensity with brief yet gentle interludes featuring his very own voice, although he never turns the energy down to zero. “Synthetic Tragedy” calls to fans from a massive berth of genres but caters to all the emo kids that turned into EDM adults.
Colombian producers Juan Dileju and Nick Duque team up on a future house collaboration, “NOW,” released on Groove Basement. A steady bassline supports hi-hats that land like drops of rain on water, inviting an otherworldly sense of peace. Meanwhile, celestial synths twinkle and glow and breathe into existence, enveloping the dance floor in a galactic environment. Juan Dileju and Nick Duque utilize a vocal sample that references a very human conflict between two lovers, and yet the production on “NOW” is absolutely heavenly.
